I am a Philadelphia-based mixed-media artist, working primarily with collage and textiles. My work is an amalgamation– it is emotive and messy and joyful.
To create each piece, I experiment with shapes, marks, and bold, vivid colors. Figures in my work often appear disjointed and conflicted, with no discernible foreground or background. At times I include recognizable facial features, body parts, flowers. Other times, the forms are almost entirely abstracted. The creative process, the time spent playing with paint and paper and other materials, is as vital as the final work.
I am inspired by other self-taught artists who feel the conviction to create without a formal art background. My work allows me to express anger and frustration, but also the beauty and joy I see in the world– albeit contradicting, these emotions live side-by-side in my work and life.
